Findings

  • Mills Cemetery (Garland, Texas) 1/19/08

    The Claims:

The Mills Cemetery is famous for a gravestone known as “Smiley’s Grave.”  Reports are; orbs, apparitions, strange smells, noises, and supposedly if you lie atop Smiley’s Grave you have an invisible force that prevents you from getting up.

    The Investigation:

When Southern Plains Paranormal arrived at Mills Cemetery we quickly debunked one of the claims.  A local recycling plant located a few blocks away caused the “smell” claim.  If anyone has ever been by or lived by a recycling plant, they know that can put out a foul smell at times.

During the investigation we had one video camera, one digital snapshot camera and one digital audio recorder.  There were three investigators present… Nick, Kylean and Jason.

We quickly went to the location of “Smiley’s Grave.”  Upon arrival, in both cameras, we had battery drainage of sixty percent.  This is a common occurrence when dealing with the paranormal, since it is believed that the spirits will use the energy of the batteries to manifest themselves.  Once we studied the area, we noticed what was likely the cause of the feeling of being held down on the grave.  The gravestone is located at the bottom of an incline.  Thus when trying to bend forward it would feel as if someone was holding you down but in actuality it was nothing more than gravity.  We at Southern Plains Paranormal out of respect for the Smiley family, did not lie atop of the grave.  There is no conclusive evidence of the phenomenon.

Two hours into the investigation, Nick had is own personal experience.  As he was walking back to the vehicle for a break, something grabs a hold of his right leg as he walking down the common path of the cemetery.  Nick, being the skeptic of the group, was unlikely to make something of this nature up.  Upon this incident, we decided to set up surveillance equipment to monitor this location.  We monitored the area for ten minutes until the batteries strangely died.  What we used was a video camera and our audio device to try and pick up apparitions or EVP’s.  After the batteries were drained on our equipment, we had no choice but to wrap up our investigation.

    The Evidence:

Unfortunately we were unable to capture any video or digital camera images.  We did however record three EVP’s.

                EVP #1:

This EVP was captured at the north part of the cemetery and consists of a woman’s voice

                which is unintelligible.

                EVP #2:

This recording was captured in the middle of the cemetery and consists of a woman’s

                voice which is unintelligible.

                EVP #3:

This EVP was taken during the surveillance portion, where investigator Nick was

touched.  The recorder was being video taped the entire time and no person was

around during the phenomenon.  All parties were in the vehicle and accounted for.

The EVP consists of strange laughing coming directly by the recorder and fades away.

What is strange about this EVP is for over nine minutes you hear footsteps and other

strange noises while nobody was near the area.

    Conclusion:

Due to the fact we did not recover any images or video, we cannot conclude that Mill’s Cemetery is haunted.  However, one of our lead investigators did have his own personal experience and we recovered EVP’s that were quite interesting.  This has led us to the conclusion that we must investigate Mill’s Cemetery once again and our findings will becoming soon.

  • Mills Cemetery Revisited (Garland, TX)... The Conclusion 2/23/08

On February 23rd the Southern Plains Paranormal Investigations Team did a second investigation of the Mills Cemetery in Garland, Texas.  There are no facts, visual or audio to justify this location as being haunted.  However, we did come across some occurrences with our investigators and some EVPs that were unintelligible.  The overall feeling we have of the Mills Cemetery is there appears to be something paranormal going on but not a full-fledged haunted location.
